If you ever have an hour or two to spare Monday-Friday, get in touch and we’ll help find someone else available then too!

Go postering!

Hackney Unemployed Workers group want to get the word out about our event on 22 Nov (See above) as far as possible. If you have time to go out putting posters up, please email hackneyunemployedworkers@gmail.com or download them here and print some yourself! If you have time after the 22nd Nov, we also have general posters we need help with and SELCAP’s migrant worker poster campaign will need some posterers too!

Help do up the office

We want to do up the office this month to make it more user-friendly and a space where children can feel comfortable too.

  • Can you provide any of these bits… shelves, toys, paint, blinds/curtains, a small sofa?
  • Are you free to help out on the afternoon/evening of Friday 27th November or during the day on Friday 28th November?

If so contact Sarah.

Help with research to support our working groups

Hackney residents group have asked for support from a project group who would concentrate on research, press and outreach work, including cultivating the interest of particular councillors or MPs sympathetic to actually getting the policies that are being ignored by local authorities realized.
We need people willing to take part in a group, which would start by listening to the Hackney Residents’ Group and Hackney Unemployed Workers group, and undertaking research about widely felt issues which we could win a campaign on.

If this is something you would be interested in doing, please email londoncoalitionagainstpoverty@gmail.com, and come along to one of the next residents’ meetings 14 or 28 November, and an Unemployed Workers meeting on a Thursday!

We’re also looking for people to help us make solidarity links with other organisations and to help with our email admin. Let us know if you’re interested!

Join Hackney Unemployed Workers group or Hackney Residents Group

Come to the next Hackney Residents Meeting to organise action for better housing!

The meetings are a space for support on housing cases and situations and to campaign for overall change! Saturday 14th November 11 am – 1 pm at Navarino Mansions Community Hall (Dalston Lane, London E8 1AJ). The nearest stations are Hackney Central Overground or Hackney Downs Rail (which you can get from Liverpool Street Station). Also the 38 bendy bus stops outside. There is childcare and refreshments during the meetings.

Come to one of the weekly Hackney Unemployed Workers meetings and help build the campaign for justice at the job centre and against welfare abolition!

Every Thursday 12pm at Cafe Bohemia, 2 Bohemia Place, off Mare St, Hackney. Opposite Hackney Central station. Tea and coffee provided. They say:”There are 37 claimants for every new job in Hackney. Have a look at our blog too.

South London and Tower Hamlets

There are also groups meeting in Tower Hamlets and South East London. Please email londoncoalitionagainstpoverty@gmail.com for more details.

Volunteer at the office!

We’re always aiming to staff the LCAP office as regularly as possible. At the AGM we agreed to aim to have it regularly staffed on Mondays and Thursdays but any time you’ve got that you fancy spending in the office is gratefully received! With that in mind, here are the November and December office shift sign up sheets. Just click on a link, update it and save it.

Sign your friends and family (and yourself!) up to standing orders

LCAP is a grassroots organisation that is funded by the grassroots. We don’t spend loads of money, but we currently are spending more than is coming in. Help us to take advantage of seasonal cheer this winter by inviting your friends and family to make a regular donation to LCAP by standing order. Email londoncoalitionagainstpoverty@gmail.com for our account number and sort code. People can then sign up through their online banking or at their bank.

That’s all for now… hope to see you at something this month!
