Direct Action Casework Training – Saturday 16 February
Posted on | January 30, 2008 | No Comments
We’re pleased to announce the first of our Direct Action Casework (DAC) Trainings. DAC is a means of resolving the unfair and unlawful treatment of people at the hands of institutions which treat disadvantaged people badly by going beyond the traditonal boundaries of advocacy. It means bringing people together to take action which challenges those institutions publicly. It means seeing solving individual problems in a political context. For example, LCAP has used DAC to assert rights to housing for homeless people.
Time: Saturday 16th February, 11am – 4pm
Place: The Arbour Community Centre, 100 Shandy Street, Stepney Green, E1 4ST (http://www.thearbour.org.uk/page9.html). Nearest tubes are Mile End and Stepney Green
Contact details for the day: londoncoalitionagainstpoverty@gmail.com, 07894 461713
During the day we will:
- Hear from activists and practitioners on their experience of using DAC
- Discuss and practice different approaches to advocacy
- Learn how LCAP uses DAC, and how you can get involved
- Gain the skills necessary to start supporting homeless people turned away unlawfully (’gate-kept’) at Homeless Persons Units.
- Learn in a participatory way, not be lectured at
- Meet other advocates, and share experiences and opinions on new ways of working. Lunch will be provided.
